Understanding Australian Time Differences
Click to see a Time Zone Map

As a rule-of-thumb, depending on where you are in the U.S.A., Australia is about 14 to 17 hours ahead of you in time --- that is, in Australia, for most of the day, it is the day after the day you are observing – Sunday in U.S.A., Monday in Australia. Also, roughly, daytime here, nighttime there.

Click on the clock above to see a time-zone map.  Just above the map, there is a link where you may change the time mode from normal 12-hour time to military-style 24-hour time.  Slightly up and to the right of the map of Australia, the current date is posted.  The date on this map is in 1 of 2 forms: (a) if you are using the 24-hour time mode, the date-form will be ‘dd-mm-yyyy.  For example, 01-06-2007 represents June 1, 2007; (b) if you are using the 12-hour time mode, the date-form will be U.S.A.-style date, mm-dd-yyyy --- e.g. 06-01-2007 for June 1, 2007.  And, finally, your eyes are not deceiving you; some time zones in Australia are but 30 minutes different from adjacent time zones. Not the full hour seen in the U.S.A.
